No documented founder or formal establishment record has been identified for National Ty Day. National Day Calendar, National Today and Days of the Year each return nothing for it, and no organiser, campaign, or first observance has been traced.
Four decades to the top 1000
Visibility is not popularity. Ty stayed outside the top 1000 American boys' names until 1955, when 71 births finally carried it in.
The handover that followed was less a conquest than an inheritance. Jo had led the two letter names since 1923, and in 1976 it slipped to 461st. Ty passed it that year on 335 births, without climbing much itself.
