Favorite Halloween Movie by State

To determine the most popular Halloween movie in each state, Holiday Calendar conducted an online survey of 3,500 American adults between October 1st and October 15th, 2024. Respondents were recruited through a nationally representative online panel and screened to include only adults aged 18 and older. The sample was distributed across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with demographic quotas for age, gender, and region to ensure broad representation. Respondents were presented with a curated list of 35 popular Halloween and horror films spanning multiple decades and subgenres—from family-friendly titles to classic slashers—and asked to select their single favorite film to watch during the Halloween season. An open-ended write-in option captured any unlisted titles. State-level winners were determined by plurality vote. The survey has an overall margin of error of ±1.7 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
