Holiday Calendar
Editorial Ethos · The Holiday Calendar Registry

If a day is celebrated, it belongs in the record.

Holiday Calendar is the central, definitive source for celebrated observances. We turn scattered cultural traditions into a verified, permanent registry. This page is the standard every entry is held to.

6,200+ observances on file
3 classes of evidence
100% human-audited entries
The standard

Six commitments, fixed for every entry

Whether a day was signed into federal law or born in a group chat, it is researched, written, and maintained the same way.

Unbiased

We record factual history. We do not judge a holiday’s validity or importance, endorse products, or propose policies. We collaborate with organizations, brands, and individuals to document their initiatives, but the standard never bends: every entry meets the same primary source requirements.

Accurate

The registry is a living archive. Records and data visualizations update as soon as new primary evidence or government proclamations are released, and human errors are corrected the moment they are found.

Understandable

Legislative gazettes, historical archives, and social media trends are standardized into one clinical, easy-to-grasp format. We strip away promotional fluff and lead with the Core Registry Name, the formal institutional title, over common aliases.

Comprehensive

From international UN mandates down to niche community traditions, we do not filter for size or status. If an observance exists in the public consciousness, we research it.

Contextual

Never just a date. Every report carries the who, when, and how: modern observances compared to their founding documents or cultural roots, parsed by geography and founding entity.

Transparent

Origin statements cite primary sources and link founding documents whenever available. AI assists in processing datasets and drafting initial text; the Holiday Calendar team fact-checks and audits every label, name, and date pattern.

Scope

Everything in the public consciousness

Our scope is absolute. Every entry in the registry falls into one of three evidence classes.

Legislative & City Mandates

Holidays born from legislative action, federal law, or local municipal proclamations.

Covers: Federal holidays, state observances, official city days

Institutional & Brand Initiatives

Observances promoted by organizations and brands to celebrate industries or champion causes.

Covers: Industry days, awareness weeks, brand-founded holidays

Cultural Emergence

Traditions that arise organically from social media, local news, and grassroots community movements.

Covers: Internet-born days, local traditions, fan observances
Verification protocol

A strict hierarchy of evidence

For established mandates, our research team works down a fixed ladder of primary sources. For cultural holidays where a founding entity is nebulous, we conduct exhaustive research into the earliest documented emergence instead.

Both paths end in the same place: an entry preserved in the Global Holiday Archive with the same level of care.

Government gazettes
The official journals where mandates are published and dated.
Legislative proclamations
Federal, state, and municipal acts that establish an observance.
Formal institutional registries
Founding records kept by organizations, institutions, and brands.
When no founder exists
Classified as Community Origin
Grassroots history is acknowledged, traced to its earliest documented appearance, and archived with the same rigor as an official mandate.
How we use AI

Artificial intelligence helps us process vast datasets and draft initial registry text. Nothing ships on its word alone: all text, labels, and date patterns are fact-checked and audited by the Holiday Calendar team for accuracy, neutrality, and adherence to our archival standards.
