Journalist Mostafa Amin campaigned through his newspaper Akhbar Al-Youm to establish Mother's Day after being inspired by a widowed mother's story. Readers selected March 21, President Gamal Abdel Nasser approved it, and the first national celebration occurred on March 21, 1956.
