American Humane, America's first national humane organization founded in 1877, established Adopt-a-Cat Month in 1974 to encourage adoption of shelter cats during peak kitten season in June, addressing shelter overcrowding and promoting cat welfare over purchasing pets.
Introduction
Calling all cat lovers! June 1 marks the start of National Adopt A Cat Month – a whole month dedicated to finding loving homes for furry feline friends. This holiday started back in 1972 when the American Humane Association launched an initiative to promote cat adoption and raise awareness about the millions of cats waiting to be adopted in shelters. Not only do cats make great companions, but adopting one also helps reduce the number of stray and homeless cats. So why not consider adding a new member to your family this month and give a deserving cat a forever home?
