RAINN Formation

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the largest anti-sexual assault organization in the United States, was established.

Inaugural RAINN Day

RAINN initiates the first RAINN Day, an annual day of awareness to educate individuals and communities about sexual violence.

RAINN's Online Hotline Launch

RAINN created the first secure web-based crisis hotline providing live and anonymous support to victims of sexual assault.

Policy Implementation Milestone

RAINN’s policy team achieved the successful passage of laws to enhance the nation's response to rape, including the Rape Kit Action Project.

Data Collection by States

RAINN successfully advocated for laws in all 50 states to collect DNA from persons arrested for certain crimes, aiding the apprehension and conviction of sexual predators.
