WHY THIS DAY MATTERS

Why World Hearing Day is Important

To recognize progress in treating hearing loss

Thanks to advances in medical science, treatments for hearing loss have come a long way over the past few decades. From new technologies that stimulate auditory nerves directly, to improved surgical procedures that give patients more natural speech recognition abilities, there are always new ways to improve quality of life for those suffering from deafness and related symptoms. World Hearing Day gives us all a chance to celebrate these great strides in medicine!

To raise awareness about hearing loss

World Hearing Day is an opportunity to spread the word and increase public awareness of hearing issues, including but not limited to hearing loss. This can help to reduce the stigma associated with hearing impairment, and may encourage those in need to seek help from a healthcare professional.

To remind people of their responsibility for preventing hearing damage

Hearing damage caused by loud noise or other assaults on the ear is preventable. On World Hearing Day, we are reminded that we all have a responsibility to protect our own hearing as well as those around us. Taking simple steps such as wearing protective ear coverings in noisy environments can go a long way towards preventing future hearing loss!
