France kept Catherine, Denmark cut it down
The long form put down roots in one language after another. France had Catherine, Spain Catalina, Poland Katarzyna, Hungary Katalin, Finland Kaarina. Scandinavia went further and trimmed it: Swedish and Norwegian settled on Karin, and Danish on Karen.
