Fashion designer Ashley Lauren Kerr, through her brand ASHLEYlauren, founded National Dress Day to honor the role dresses play in celebrating significant life moments. The Registrar at National Day Calendar officially declared the day in October 2016, with the inaugural public observance on March 6, 2017.
