Origin of the Clubs

The first Boys Club was founded in Hartford, Connecticut as a positive alternative for boys who were roaming the streets.

National Association Formed

Several Boys Clubs joined together to form a national organization, the Federated Boys Clubs in Boston.

Boys Clubs of America

The national organization becomes Boys Clubs of America and receives its federal charter.

Inclusion of Girls

The national organization changes its name to Boys & Girls Clubs of America to include girls in its mission and programs.

Celebration of the First Week

The first National Boys & Girls Club Week was celebrated to honor the impact of clubs on youth and community development.
