What is documented is that people mark it. On 4 July 2025 the Manchester Evening News told its readers it was National Sophie Day, and asked them to celebrate the fabulous Sophies in their lives. A regional newsroom, posting on the right date, is the firmest trace the day has left.

Sophie has appeared in the United States birth list in every one of the 145 years the government has published one. Even in its worst year the count stayed above the threshold that would have stripped it from public data.
