Two spellings arrive within five years
Corey reached the Social Security Administration's reporting threshold in 1919, with five boys. Cory followed in 1924, with seven. The agency publishes nothing for a name below five births in a year, so both were almost certainly in quiet use before those dates.
Neither name was common at the time. Both sat near the bottom of the federal files, rising above the five birth cutoff in some years and dropping below it in others. Across the 146 years on file, there are 51 in which neither spelling appears at all.
