Holiday Calendar established National Skibidi Toilet Day in 2024 through a community vote on its platform. The community fixed the date to February 7, the day the first Skibidi Toilet short was posted in 2023, and the first observance fell on February 7, 2025.

INTRO

How 11 seconds of toilet animation conquered the internet

It ran 11 seconds. A human head rose out of a toilet bowl, sang a snatch of a viral audio mashup, and that was the whole video. There was no title card and no plot.

That clip went up on February 7, 2023. Within ten months, videos tied to the series it launched had pulled in more than 65 billion combined views, and The Washington Post called Skibidi Toilet the biggest online phenomenon of the year. National Skibidi Toilet Day marks that date.

The holiday came later, and from the audience itself. Holiday Calendar members voted it onto the calendar in 2024, choosing February 7 so the celebration would land on the exact day the first short appeared.

Skibidi Toilet Day history

INTRODUCTION

The word came before the toilet. In 2018, the Russian rave band Little Big released a dance track called "Skibidi", a nonsense syllable built for its beat. The song spawned a viral dance challenge and planted the word in the internet's vocabulary five years early.

The series itself started with a bad dream. Its creator, Alexey Gerasimov, an animator in the Republic of Georgia, has said the idea came partly from nightmares about heads rising out of toilets.

CHAPTER 01

One animator and a free tool

Gerasimov built everything in Source Filmmaker, the free animation program Valve gives away on Steam. He ran a modest channel, DaFuq!?Boom!, with roughly a million subscribers.

On February 7, 2023, he posted the 11-second clip. The episodes that followed kept the same shape: short, wordless, ending on a cliffhanger in a war between toilet-dwelling heads and humanoids with cameras and speakers for faces.

CHAPTER 02

The explosion

The growth was almost vertical. By April 2023 the channel was logging close to 2.9 billion views a month. By December it had passed 37 million subscribers, and YouTube named Skibidi Toilet its top trend of the year.

Critics and parents reached for the same label: brain rot. The bizarre visuals fed a small moral panic, including talk of a "Skibidi Toilet syndrome," which The Guardian dismissed as just that, a moral panic.

CHAPTER 03

From short to franchise to holiday

Hollywood noticed. In July 2024, Variety reported that Michael Bay and former Paramount president Adam Goodman were developing a film and TV franchise through their studio Invisible Narratives.

The holiday grew from the fans, not the studio. In 2024, Holiday Calendar members voted to make February 7 a yearly observance, choosing the series' own debut date rather than an arbitrary one. The first National Skibidi Toilet Day was celebrated on February 7, 2025.
